COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says an officer suffered minor injuries while trying to take a suspect into custody.
According to CSPD, officers responded to the 2800 block of South Circle Drive around 11:30 a.m. for a domestic disturbance. Officers learned the suspect had already left the scene by the time they arrived, but they established probable cause for misdemeanor charges.
Around 5:40 p.m., CSPD says officers got a second call from the victim that the suspect was back and trying to gain entry to the residence. The victim was able to separate from the suspect before arrival.
When CSPD officers did arrive, the suspect had stepped outside, but tried to go back inside when officers told him he was under arrest, according to officials. CSPD says they then tried to take him into custody and a struggle ensued.
The suspect, Steven Westerveld, was taken to the ground and placed into custody. CSPD says during the takedown, one officer sustained minor injuries.
