(KRON) -- A man accused of stealing mail from a United States Postal Service (USPS) earlier this month was found with burglary tools and washed checks in his Fremont home, according to the police department.
Fremont police said during the Oct. 8 incident, a mail carrier reported that he returned to his locked USPS vehicle to find the suspect standing next to it.
“The subject fled in a vehicle, and the mail carrier saw that a tray of mail was missing,” police said.
Investigators said they worked with police department’s Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) and neighboring law enforcement agencies to help identify the suspect.
A search warrant at the suspect’s home uncovered “multiple pieces of stolen mail, burglary tools, washed checks, and other tools typically used for ID manipulations, drugs, and drug paraphernalia," police added.
Police did not disclose the estimated value of the aforementioned checks or what potential charges the suspect faces.
